Daniel founded the firm with a focus on family law and commercial/banking law. He brought experience from his time as a legal practitioner in Johannesburg and nearly a decade of service at a commercial bank, where he was involved in several bank mergers and assisted the HR department with labor issues, receiving specialized training from UNISA.

In 2005, Yolandie Borman joined the firm. She now leads the Family and Child Law division and shares responsibility with Daniel for overseeing the Labour Law division.

Commercial law in South Africa is governed by statutes such as the Companies Act, though not all aspects of commercial law are codified. Areas not covered by statute remain under common law principles. Regulatory bodies like the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), National Credit Regulator (NCR), and the Competition Commission oversee the enforcement of relevant laws, including the Companies Act, National Credit Act, and anti-competitive practices.

Dispute resolution mechanisms, like the Companies Tribunal and Consumer Tribunal, aim to provide efficient resolutions. However, their findings are often advisory rather than binding, raising questions about their cost-effectiveness and impact compared to court rulings.
